Bengaluru, May 12, 2026: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday joined the probe into the recovery of two gelatin sticks found along the route of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy on the outskirts of Bengaluru a day earlier.
According to officials quoted by ANI, an NIA team departed from Delhi to assist the local police in the investigation.
Prime Minister Modi had visited Bengaluru on Sunday to attend the 45th anniversary celebrations of The Art of Living and the 70th birthday event of its founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
The Kaggalipura police registered an FIR under Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 9B of the Explosives Act in connection with the case.
According to the FIR, constable Jagadish Doddamani found a transparent ziplock plastic bag about 20 feet from a mud road near a forested stretch off Kanakapura Road in Sector-1A at around 9.45 am on Sunday.
Police said the bag contained a cardboard box wrapped in cellophane tape, six incense sticks, a matchbox and adhesive tape. Suspecting foul play, senior officers alerted the bomb squad, which later confirmed the presence of gelatin sticks during an inspection conducted between 10.15 am and 10.50 am.
Senior officials said a parallel detailed investigation is also being carried out by a Deputy Superintendent of Police-rank officer from the Bengaluru South district.
“A comprehensive investigation is underway as investigators analyse CCTV footage and track registered as well as unregistered gelatin sellers in the area,” an officer said.
