Bangalore students bag top ICSE ranks

Bangalore, May 22, 2014:  Five City students added yet another feather to Karnataka’s cap as they secured the top three ranks in the Indian Certificate of Secondary Examination (ICSE) class X exams, the results of which were declared on Wednesday.

The state registered an impressive 99.83 pass percentage. Shreyas Sudhaman of Sri Kumaran Public School on Kanakapura Road and Apoorva Narayanaswamy of St Paul’s English School in J P Nagar are two of the four students in the country who secured 98.60 per cent in the exam and shared the first rank.

Rajat Vediraj Dwarkanath, also from St Paul’s school, secured the second rank along with nine others across the country. They all scored 98.40 per cent.

Dipayan Sinha from Bishop’s Cotton Boys School and Tejaskumar R from Presidency School in Nandini Layout are among the 22 students in the country who secured the third position.

Shreyas shared his excitement with Deccan Herald. “I was really not expecting the top position. I prepared constantly throughout the year and followed an organised timetable. Therefore, during the exam, I was not worried at all.”

He got 100 in Mathematics and Computer Applications, 99 in English, 98 in Social Studies and 96 in Science. An avid footballer, Shreyas wants to take up Science in his higher classes to pursue his goal of studying engineering in an IIT.

Apoorva also said she would like to take up Science in higher studies but her goal is medicine. “I would like to get into AIIMS and if I have to study in the City, I would like to be a student in BMC (Bangalore Medical College),” she said.

She said she prepared for the exams by studying two to three hours daily from day one. She has secured a 100 in Mathematics and Computer Applications, 99 in Social Studies, 98 in Science and 96 in English.
