New Delhi/Lucknow, Jan 02, 2015:  Rajeshwar Singh, the chief of Dharm Jagran Samiti in Uttar Pradesh, has been sent on leave following controversy engulfing the ’ghar wapsi’ programmes organised under his aegis, reports claimed on Friday.

Rajeshwar Singh, an RSS pracharak, had been organising the now-controversial ‘ghar wapsi’ reconversion programmes in western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. He had also led the ‘ghar wapsi’ ceremony at Agra which had created controversy and led to the stalling of Parliament.

While some reports claimed he has been sent “on leave” by the RSS, others stated he has been altogether removed from the post.

The development is being seen as a fallout of anguish expressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi over incidents like these tarnishing the image of his pro-development government. Modi was also pressed by the Opposition to come to Rajya Sabha and make a statement on the matter.

Rajeshwar, meanwhile, said he has himself taken leave for some time.

He told reporters in Agra: “I have sought leave from my leadership because of some health-related problems. My request was accepted and my leadership has given me leave for three months.”

Rajeshwar had earlier said that he would not rest till the time there was a single non-Hindu in India.

“Our target is to make India a Hindu Rashtra by December 31, 2021. The Muslims and the Christians don’t have any right to stay here. So they would either be converted to Hinduism or forced to run away from the country,” he had said, as per reports.

The Dharm Jagran Samiti, an RSS affiliate, has been conducting ‘ghar wapsi’ programmes to bring Muslims and Christians back to the Hindu fold.
