Fujairah, Sep 29, 2026: Thumbay Hospital Fujairah has reported a positive outcome following an Awake Lumbar Spine Fusion procedure performed on a patient suffering from sciatica, highlighting its advanced spine and pain-care services.

The procedure was performed by Dr Hillol Kanti Pal, Consultant Neurosurgeon, with the support of Dr Azharuddin Mohammad and Dr Ravindra Reddy, Specialists in Anesthesiology, along with the hospital’s Operation Theatre team.

Awake Lumbar Spine Fusion is performed in appropriately selected patients while they remain awake or under carefully controlled sedation. Dr Pal said the hospital follows a structured approach to managing sciatica, combining clinical assessment, diagnostic imaging and targeted pain-management procedures. He added that the use of two C-arm fluoroscopy machines at Thumbay Hospital Fujairah helps reduce operative time and the requirement for anaesthesia drugs while facilitating patient cooperation during the procedure.
