Karnataka Minister K.J. George visits Thumbay Medicity in UAE, praises Gulf Medical University

UAE, Sep 16, 2026: Karnataka Energy and Tourism Minister K.J. George visited Thumbay Medicity in Ajman on Tuesday, highlighting the growing ties between Karnataka and the UAE in healthcare, medical education and tourism.

George was received by Thumbay Group founder Dr. Thumbay Moideen and senior members of the group at its flagship healthcare and academic campus.

During the visit, the minister toured key facilities at Thumbay Medicity, including Gulf Medical University, Thumbay University Hospital and Thumbay Rehabilitation Hospital. He reviewed the institutions’ medical education, clinical care and research infrastructure and interacted with faculty members, students and healthcare professionals.

The visit also highlighted the contribution of the Indian diaspora, including professionals from Karnataka, to the UAE’s healthcare sector.

Gulf Medical University attracts students from more than 111 nationalities and has produced healthcare professionals working in different parts of the world. A significant number of its students and alumni are from Karnataka and other parts of India.

Speaking during the visit, George described Thumbay Medicity as an example of long-term vision and development. He said Gulf Medical University had established itself as a prominent institution for medical education and expressed interest in exploring stronger cooperation between Karnataka and Thumbay Group in healthcare, education and tourism.

The visit is expected to provide opportunities for greater collaboration between Karnataka’s healthcare and tourism sectors and Thumbay Group’s international operations.

Thumbay Group operates healthcare, education and hospitality institutions across the UAE and other parts of the Gulf region, including Gulf Medical University, Thumbay University Hospital, Thumbay Rehabilitation Hospital and Thumbay Labs.
