Mangaluru, Oct 1, 2026: Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has assured that a high-level investigation will be conducted into the blast at the Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister U.T. Khader said on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters near Wenlock Hospital on Wednesday night, Khader said the Chief Minister had already received information about the incident and had assured that senior officials would be appointed to conduct the investigation. The names of the officials are likely to be announced on Thursday, he said.
Khader said the Chief Minister had also directed him to meet the victims of the incident, hear their concerns and offer condolences to the bereaved families. Following the direction, he had cut short his tour and returned to Mangaluru, he said.
Khader also said it had come to his notice that senior MRPL officials had not yet met the victims. He said the company officials should have met the family of the deceased person and those injured in the incident. He added that he would discuss the matter with the company management.
Reports have also been received of damage to some houses and places of worship following the blast. Khader said the extent of the damage would be assessed through the Deputy Commissioner and that MRPL would be asked to provide appropriate compensation for the losses.
