"The light has gone out of our lives..." said Jawaharlal Nehru on January 30, 1948 after Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated. The nation was without a father. Rare images from Bapu’s funeral.

Almost one million people took part in the Mahatma Gandhi’s funeral procession to reach the cremation grounds near New Delhi and mourn their leader, slain by an assassin’s bullets as he walked to prayer at Birla House.
