Udupi, Aug 30, 2018: The Udupi District Administration as well as the Human Rights Protection Foundation have been striving since the past three months to get Basrur resident Shanker Poojary (40) released from a prison in Kuwait after he was caught at the Kuwait Airport with a parcel of tablets which contained banned substances.

It is being stated that Shanker was carrying the parcel of tablet at the behest of a colleague, who reportedly managed to escape saying it was not his parcel.
Sources said the district administration has still not gathered a correct picture of the development and the exact reason why Shanker Poojary has been jailed. Meanwhile Udupi Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis spoke to Shanker’s wife Jyothi on Wednesday at the former’s office.
The Human Rights Protection Foundation  too has   been in touch with the Indian Embassy in Kuwait. The family of Shanker   on its part had tried  to draw the attention of the External Affairs Ministry through local MP Shobha Karandlaje  and has secured information that  the Ministry too is trying its level best to help Shanker Poojary.
