Youth accused of raping minor girl and thrashed

Mangalore, Jan 2, 2012: A youth residing in Padil in Puttur stands accused of raping a Std. X student. 

Reportedly, Mushtaq, the accused, was a supervisor in a construction company located near the girl’s house and was in love with her. He had also introduced himself as an engineer and proposed to her. The girl believed him and agreed to run away with him to Bangalore. She told her parents that she was going on a picnic with friends and went away with him. 

               

 

 

 

On Dec 30, the girl ran away with Mushtaq to Bangalore and never returned. Her worried parents lodged a missing person case at the Kadri Police Station, but the girl was not traced. Meanwhile, Mushtaq and his friends allegedly took the girl to Bangalore and raped her. 

Mushtaq took the girl back to Mangalore by bus after 3 days. Reportedly, Bajrang Dal activists got the information that the couple were returning home by bus and stopped them. Allegedly, they thrashed Mushtaq in Kadri, and eyewitnesses state that even the girl tried to hit Mushtaq when he was being beaten up by Bajrang Dal activists and members of Durgavahini, the women’s wing of the Shri Rama Sene. 

A seriously injured Mushtaq was admitted to Wenlock Hospital. The girl was taken to the Kadri Police Station and was later sent for medical examination. Since it is a case of rape of a minor, the child and women welfare department will register a case suo moto. 

ACP Ravindra Gadadi and DCP Dharmaiah were also present when the girl gave her statement. The police have also arrested some of the people who assaulted Mushtaq.
