Youth Congress raises voice against porn watching incident

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Feb 8, 2012: The District Youth Congress organized a protest against the two BJP ministers who were watching a porn video clipping during the assembly session at 9:30 p.m., a few hours after the news broke out on Feb 7 Tuesday, near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), Lalbhag.

Laxman Savadi, the state cooperation minister, along with C. C. Patil, the woman and child welfare minister, were caught watching a porn video clipping on mobile phone during assembly session. Allegedly, the mobile phone belonged to Krishna J. Palemar, the district-in-charge minister for DK district. This news has outraged not only the state, but also the nation, and a number of people have protested against the two ministers.

Pravinchandra Alva, the president of the Youth Congress (south zone), stated that the Vidhana Soudha is like a temple and that these ministers have not only violated its sanctity, but have also set a bad example to the youth. Stating that such a thing has happened for the first time in Indian history, Mr. Alva said that this is not acceptable. Stating that the use of mobile phones is not permitted in assembly, he said that Youth Congress wants these ministers to resign immediately. He also urged the speaker of the Karnataka State Assembly to take strict action against the two politicians.

Stating that the youth of India is least interested in joining politics, he said that such incidents will discourage them further.

Flaying the BJP, he said that the party, which calls itself “party with a difference,” is responsible for the most offensive acts such as the controversial Island Festival and the incident of watching porn clippings in assembly, an incident in which even Palemar is involved.

Mithun Rai, the president of the Youth Congress, and Congress leaders such as Arun Coelho, Vijay Kumar Shetty, Girish Alva, Ivan D’Souza, and many others participated in this protest.
