Kollur, Jan 10, 2012: Noted musician Kanhangad Ramanchandran hosted a musical concert by K J Yesudas, who turned 72 on Tuesday, to seek blessing the ace singer’s healthy and prosperous life. Mr. Ramachandran had been hosting special concerts at the temple along with Yesudas to mark his birthdays for the last 12 years in a row.

As K. J. Yesudas is completing 50 years of his accomplished music career, the legendary singer celebrated his 72nd birthday on Tuesday with family at the Kollur Mookambika temple, where he ensured his presence on the day for years to seek blessings of the Goddess of letters and music.

The celebration this time marked presence of over 100 singers and drawing and painting artistes synchronising music and reproduced images in their choicest medium as the legendary singer rendered a few hymns at the Saraswati Mandapam inside the temple premises after he reached the shrine around 07.30 a.m.

The programme at the Mandapam led by acclaimed musician Kanhangad Ramachandran, who had been hosting special music concert on January 10 coinciding the birthday of Yesudas for the last 12 years in a row to seek healthy and prosperous life to the ace singer, began at 5.30 a. m.

Yesudas devoted time for ’Vidyarambam of a few children on the occasion of his 72nd Birthday

 

Musicians, including Kovai Suresh, Thrissur Rajendran and KPN PIllai and eminent musicians from Bangalore and Chennai recited hymns and classical music concert wishing him peaceful and healthy life, Mr. Ramachandran told The Hindu over phone.

The ambience in the temple where hundreds of devotees thronged to offer birthday wish to the ace singer and be with him on the occasion turned out to be frenzied as legendary musician Dakshinamoorthy Swamy and Vidyadharan Master reached the venue to be with Yesudas, he said.

The singer paid obeisance to Goddess Mookambika and remained in prayers for some time and performed ‘Chandika Homam’ and other poojas.

The singer had hectic day inside the shrine as he ushered over 300 tiny tots into the world of letters by making them sit in his lap amid unprecedented rush of pilgrims.

Yesudas, accompanied by wife Prabha, singer son Vijay Yesudas had reached Kollur the previous day and had “darshan” of the presiding deity.
