Mangalore, Jun 6, 2012 : A woman, who was travelling by the Maharashtra-Chennai Okha Express, gave birth to a baby boy when it reached Suratkal.

 

The woman, identified as Lalitha Dharasingh, who works as a daily-wage labourer, got labour pains and gave birth to a baby boy when the train reached Suratkal on June 5, Tuesday.

Raees Ahmed Janjam of Murudeshwar got Lalitha and her baby admitted to Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangalore.

Lalitha was travelling with her husband Dharasingh and several other workers to Chennai, where they had been hired for work. She developed labour pains at around 3:00 p.m. when the train was moving closer to Mangalore. Her woman companions were planning to take her to the train toilet, where she could deliver her baby, but Abdul Raees made arrangements to shift her to an unoccupied berth where she gave birth to her son. He then took Lalitha and her baby to Wenlock Hospital, after which they were moved to Lady Goschen.
