Mangalore, Nov 20, 2011: The valedictory ceremony of the week-long drug awareness campaign was organized by the Panambur North Sub Division on Panambur Beach on Nov 19 Saturday.
Seemanth Kumar Singh, the Mangalore police commissioner, inaugurated the event by flying a kite and riding the sand buggy. He then interacted with the students who had participated in the week-long campaign and inspected their sand sculptures.




Over 500 students participated in a march from Panambur Main Road to the beach, carrying placards bearing slogans against drug abuse. They also enacted skits on the occasion.
In his address, Seemanth Kumar Singh said that youth believe that taking prohibited substances such as drugs gives pleasure, but actually they do a lot of evil. He also said that the police need the support of the public to eradicate the evil of drug abuse. Speaking about the care of drug addicts, he said that addicts must be rehabilitated and introduced into the main stream. He also urged the gathering to swear that they will never consume drugs.
He also said that the police department is doing its hardest to get rid of drug abuse. He urged the gathering to inform the police if they come across anyone selling drugs illegally. He also said that the police can fight this evil only with the help of social welfare organizations and the public.
DCPs Muthuraya, Dharmayya, and Ramesh, Panambur CPI Valentine D’Souza, and other police officers were also present.
