Mangalore, February 10, 2012 : The 9th edition of Veerarani Abbakka Utsava, a 2-day event, will be held on Saturday on the grounds of Uchila Bovi School at Sankolige in Someshwar near Mangalore.

 

Rani abbakaSo far, seven editions of the Veerarani Abbakka Utsava were held with the help of donors and philanthropists, but the state government began financially supporting the event from the last two editions. The state has sanctioned Rs. 25 lakh for the current edition.

K. Jayaram Shetty, the former MLA and president of the reception committee, told reporters that the event will begin with a grand folk procession from Kotekar Beeri to the venue. Shobha Karandlaje, the energy minister, will inaugurate the festival.

In the afternoon, a seminar titled “Mathrroopi Samksruthi Badalavaneya Nelegallu,” chaired by Sulochana Narayan, will be held. In the evening, V. S. Acharya, the higher education minister, will preside over the “Abbakka Utsava – Savi Samarambha.” N. Yogish Bhat, the deputy speaker, will speak about Rani Abbakka.

On Feb 12, a chaturbasha kavighoshti will be held, in which Kannada, Beary, Tulu, and Konkani, will be held. A seminar titled “DK District – Facets of Development” will be held in the afternoon.

CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda will confer the Rani Abbakka Awards on Lalitha Rai, the writer, and Jayasheela, the theatre artiste, during the valedictory ceremony. MLA U. T. Khader will preside over the event.
