Mangalore, Dec 19: Mangalore-born Margaret Alva, the governor of Uttarakhand, conferred the prestigious Rachana Awards on achievers during a special awards ceremony held at Milagres Jubilee Hall on Dec 19, Sunday.

She conferred the Agriculturist of the Year Award on Richard Rebello, the NRI Entrepreneur of the Year on Pascal Alan Nazareth, Entrepreneur of the Year Award on Vincent C. Kolnad, and the Outstanding Woman of the Year Award on Flavia Agnes. The award winners gratefully acknowledge the honor and thanked the Rachana Foundation for its encouragement.
Stressing the importance of giving top priority to women in a bid to prevent leadership crisis in society, she said that the Rachana Foundation (Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry) has performed laudable service in recognizing the achievements and contributions of people in the Mangalorean Konkani Catholic community. Expressing her love for her native place, she said that she thrives on opportunities to spend some time in Mangalore and taste its exquisite cuisine, especially the seafood.
Congratulating the awardees, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza said that Rachana Foundation is encouraging members of the community and inspiring the youth to emerge as powerful leaders in their chosen careers.
Justice B. V. Pinto, the Karnataka High Court judge, inaugurated the Rachana Senior Citizens’ Welfare Trust, and congratulated all its awardees. Marcel Monteiro, the previous president and convener, was also present.
Rachana President J. S. Noronha delivered the welcome address; Secretary Peter Pinto proposed the vote of thanks; and Titus Noronha and Trishma Pinto compered the event.
