Union Minister Oscar Fernandes’s brother Clifford Fernandes passes away

Mangalore, Dec 7, 2013 : Clifford F X Fernandes, the elder brother of Oscar Fernandes, Union Minister for Surface Transport and Highways, passed away at a hospital in Sydney in Australia on December 5, Thursday.


Clifford 1He was 91 and was ailing since some time. Clifford has left behind his wife,  five sisters and brother Oscar Fernandes.


Clifford was the eldest son of the late Roque Fernandes (1893-1971), former headmaster of the then-Board High School, Udupi and Leonissa (Lenny) Fernandes.  Clifford had served the Burmah Shell  in Karachi prior to the partition.


He had married Ivy Miranda having her roots in Mangalore, but was  staying in Karachi. Upon retirement Clifford’s family had moved to Australia.  He used to visit his ancestral home in Udupi until a few years ago.
