Mangalore, Dec 8, 2013: A single point mooring (SPM) system set up by MRPL, nearly 17 kms off Tannirbavi Coast was inaugurated on December 7, Saturday by Dr M Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas. A coastal booster pumping station was also inaugurated. The entire system has been set up at a cost of over Rs 1000 crores.
Speaking on the occasion, Moily said the ISPRL project underway at MSEZ and at Padoor in Udupi districts will be operational in August 2014. He also stated that the works are almost complete.
PP Upadhya, Managing Director of MRPL said the SPM system would enable harbouring of ships weighing nearly 2.5 lakh to 3 lakh tonnes and thus ease congestion in the harbour. He also informed that the crude oil pumped at SPM will be supplied to MRPL and ISPRL through a pipeline. Upadhya also stated that crude parcels on Very Large Crude Carriers can be shipped at a discharge rate of 10,000 kilo litres without any spillage.
LN Gupta, Secretary of Oil Industry Development Board also spoke on the occasion. B Ramanatha Rai, State Minister for Forests and DK District in-charge Minister, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, BA Moidin Bava, MLA, Vijaykumar Shetty, former MLA and others were present.
