Udupi police arrest 8 men for house-breaking crime

Udupi,July 26, 2012 :  The Udupi police on Wednesday arrested 8 men for breaking into a house on Vadiraja Road on the afternoon of July 13.

A gang of six men had broken into Surya Kumar Shet’s house, gagged him and his servant Ananth Poojary, and stole money and gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs.

The Udupi police, under the guidance of SP Dr. Boralingaiah, began investigating the case and launched a manhunt for the culprits in Bangalore, Hassan, Mangalore, Bantwal, and Belthangady.

The arrested are Avinash Jogi (27) of Bantwal, Sudarshan Poojary (30) of Bantwal, Sachinraj (21) of Bantwal, Yashwanth Poojary (25) of Bantwal, Nithin Kumar (22) of Bantwal, Navaneet (21) of Bantwal, Nithin Bangera (28) of Chilimbi in Mangalore, and Achyuta Acharya (30) of Beluvai. Some of them already have other cases registered against them and will be produced in court shortly.

The police seized diamond rings, gold rings, pearl chains, a gold nugget, and other jewelry worth Rs. 8 lakh from the arrested.

The investigation team was guided by Venkateshappa, additional SP; Prabhudev Mane, Udupi DySP; and S. V. Girish, circle inspector. SP Boralingaiah congratulated the team and announced a reward for Rs. 10,000 for them.
