Udupi, Jan 17, 2026: The city of Udupi, known as the land of Lord Krishna, is all set to host the grand Sheeruru Paryaya Mahotsava, the first Paryaya of the Pontiff Sri Vedavardhana Tirtha. According to Yashpal Suvarna, chairman of the Paryaya Reception Committee and MLA, preparations are almost complete, and with the cooperation of Udupi residents, the biennial festival is expected to be conducted in a highly organized and magnificent manner.

Over 2 lakh devotees are expected to participate in the celebrations. Arrangements have been made for food distribution at three locations on Saturday night to accommodate the devotees.

Awards for Achievers: On Jan 18 at 6 a.m., the grand Paryaya Darbar will be held at the adorned Rajangana, where eminent achievers from across the country will be honored with the Sri Krishna Anugraha Award by the Sheeruru Pontiff.

A felicitation program will also be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday to honor outgoing leaders, including Sri Sugunendra Tirtha of Puttige Matha, and to recognize the contributions of junior pontiffs Sri Sushrindra Tirtha at the Rathabedi stage, as informed by Yashpal Suvarna.

Schedule of Sheeruru Paryaya Events:

Jan 18, 1:15 a.m.: Holy bath by Sheeruru Pontiffs at Danda Tirtha near Kapu.

2:00 a.m.: Majestic Paryaya procession starts from Jodukatte.

5:15 a.m.: Lord Krishna Darshan at Kanakana Kindi.

5:45 a.m.: Sarvajna Peetharohan by Sheeruru Pontiffs.

5:55 a.m.: Traditional Darbar and Mangalarati to the Ashta Mathadheeshwaras at Badagumalige Aralu Grounds.

6:15 a.m.: Paryaya Darbar at Rajangana, with blessings from invited Ashta Mathadheeshwaras and Paryaya Pontiffs.

10:30 a.m.: Mahapooja by Sheeruru Pontiffs.

Paryaya Procession: The grand procession will commence at 2:00 a.m., featuring over 85 cultural troupes from various states, along with spectacular tableaux showcasing diverse attractions, moving from Udupi Jodukatte to Shri Krishna Matha.

Food Arrangements: On Jan 17 night, arrangements will be made to serve meals to 40,000 people. Special food distribution will also take place from 7:30 p.m. near Shri Nityananda Swami Mandir, City Council office, and Krishna Math parking area.

Dignitaries Participating: Many prominent figures from across the country will participate in the procession and Darbar alongside the Ashta Mathadheeshwaras of Udupi Shri Krishna Matha, including Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraj Odeyar, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara, District Minister Lakshmi R. Hebbali, BJP state president B.Y. Vijendra, MP Kote Srinivas Poojari, along with other MLAs, district officials, and dignitaries.
