Udupi, December 31, 2025: A child was killed and several passengers sustained serious injuries after a private bus rammed into a hillside at Hulikal Ghat late on the night of December 30.
The bus, operated by a private firm based in Kundapur, was travelling from Davanagere to Mangaluru when the accident occurred. Preliminary reports suggest that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle, possibly due to drowsiness.
The impact severely damaged the front portion of the bus. Among the injured, Sharifabi (57), Imam Sab (73) and Safna (28) were admitted to a private hospital, while other injured passengers were shifted to various hospitals, including private facilities in Udupi.
Police rushed to the scene, conducted an inspection and registered a case in connection with the incident.
