He was addressing a protest meet convened in front of the Deputy commissioner’s office in Manipal on December 7, Saturday demanding that the Sowjanya case should be probed by the  CBI under Supreme Court  surveillance. Continuing, Shetty said the nerveless Karnataka Government which had announced that the case will be handed over to the CBI, has not yet entrusted the case formally  to the CBI. The three cabinet meetings held recently had not discussed the issue, he said and alleged that  by further delaying, the government was only giving scope for the accused to destroy evidences.

Sri Esha Vittaldasa Swamiji of Kemar Mutt said the state government was cheating the people by not yet entrusting the Sowjanya case to the CBI. He warned that the movement will have to be intensified if the delay continued.

Sowjanya’s mother Kusumavathi, Dr BR Harale and poetess Sukanya Kalasa also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier a two-wheeler jatha was taken out from Tiger Circle, Manipal to the DC office. The protestors later submitted a memorandum to the President of India through Udupi DC Dr MT Reju.
