Udupi Naxal cases: 39 under trial, 28 disposed of since 2003, says SP

Udupi, December 23, 2025: Of the 68 cases registered so far in connection with Naxal activities that surfaced in the district in 2003, 39 cases are currently under judicial trial and 28 cases have been disposed of, Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said. One case is pending the filing of an additional chargesheet.

He said additional documentation is yet to be submitted in cases against three accused, while one case is under investigation by the CID. Over the past six months, 11 Naxal accused have been produced before courts in connection with 39 cases. Charges have been framed against the accused in these cases, and the trials are in progress.

M. Vanajakshi alias Jyothi alias Kalpana (58) of Kalasa is currently lodged in Bengaluru Central Prison, with charges framed in six cases against her. B.G. Krishnamurthy alias Vijay (46) of Sringeri is presently lodged in the Viyyur High Security Prison in Thrissur, Kerala, with charges framed in seven cases.

Savitri J.L. alias Usha (33) of Kalasa is currently in the women’s prison in Thrissur, Kerala, with charges framed in two cases. Padmanabha of Neelaguli, Koppal, who is out on bail, faces charges in two cases.

Tombattu Lakshmi (39) of Machattu village in Kundapur is also out on bail and has charges framed in three cases. Latha alias Mundagaru Latha (45) of Sringeri is lodged in Bengaluru Central Prison, with charges framed in 12 cases.

Mahesh alias Madhava (49) of Manvi in Raichur district is currently in the Viyyur High Security Prison in Thrissur, Kerala, with charges framed in eight cases. Kanyakumari of Kalasa is lodged in Bengaluru Central Prison, with charges framed in 10 cases.

Suresh alias Mahesh (50) is lodged in Kannur Central Prison in Kerala, with charges framed in 23 cases. Sundari alias Geetha of Kuthloor, Belthangady, is currently in Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru Central Prison, with charges framed in nine cases. Prabha alias Hosagadde Prabha of Agumbe is presently staying at Sai Old Age Home in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, with charges framed in six cases, the SP added.
