Udupi, May 07, 2025: Police have arrested a notorious inter-state burglar, Sanjay Kumar (32), in connection with a daring house break-in at Mallaru. The accused, a native of Gandhinagar (Somwarpet, Kodagu), was residing in a rented house at Bharat Nagar, Uliyargoli, and has a staggering 36 theft cases registered against him across Karnataka.
The Burglary
The targeted house belonged to a woman working in Saudi Arabia, who visits every few months. Noticing the property was unoccupied, Sanjay Kumar broke in, suspecting it contained cash and gold. He stole Rs 5,000 and four luxury watches worth Rs 60,000 before fleeing.
The crime was discovered on May 1 when the homeowner’s relative, Imran, returned from Saudi Arabia and reviewed CCTV footage. The footage showed the burglar forcefully breaking the main door between 3-4 AM, ransacking cupboards, and escaping with the valuables.

Acting on a complaint, Kaup Police launched an investigation and traced Sanjay Kumar’s criminal history—including a prior bike theft case in Madikeri’s Madhavapur police station. A raid at his Bharat Nagar hideout led to his arrest, with police recovering the stolen watches and a black Bajaj Pulsar bike used in the crime.
The operation was conducted under CPI Jayashree Mane’s supervision, with SI Tejaswi, Head Constable Narayan, and Constable Raghu leading the arrest.
