Udupi, Jun 13, 2026: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay visited Udupi district for the first time after assuming office and offered prayers at the famous Kollur Mookambika Temple.
Vijay spent nearly half an hour at the sanctum of Goddess Mookambika, offering prayers and presenting a silk saree along with fruits and tamboola to the deity. He also donated a silver sword weighing 1.6 kilograms as an offering to the goddess, said temple trust president Babu Hegde. The temple administration and trustees welcomed Chief Minister Vijay with a bouquet, following which the priests ceremonially escorted him into the temple amid Vedic chants.
Dressed in traditional attire, Vijay adhered to the customs and etiquette of the temple. Under the guidance of chief priest Ramachandra Adiga, a Sankalpa Pooja was performed, in which the Chief Minister also participated. As part of the temple’s regular rituals, the daily worship and Deeparadhana were conducted. Temple sources clarified that no special poojas or exclusive religious programmes had been organised for the occasion.
After the rituals, the priests tied a sacred thread on Vijay’s wrist and blessed him. He then received prasadam before leaving the temple premises. Vijay’s first visit to Kollur after becoming Chief Minister generated considerable interest among political circles and his supporters, prompting heightened security arrangements at the temple.
