Mangalore, June 10, 2013 : Two boys aged 5 and 13 respectively met a watery grave in a open quarry pit at Kayarpadavu, located on the borders of Ulaibettu and Bondantila villages in the outskirts of Mangalore on June 9, Sunday.

The deceased are  Manjunath (5), son of Shekhappa and Sarojini and Rajendra alias Raju (13), son of Dadasaheb and Suma couple. The boys belonged to families of labourers of Belgaum origin who were staying in the locality.



The mishap took place when the elders were away to the city to buy household articles. Initially it was Manjunath who drowned,Rajendra who rushed to his aid also  eventually got drowned.

The stone quarry pit had been largely covered with soil by the owner, while only a small portion was left to be covered. The uncovered spot was filled with rain water and has now claimed two lives. Rural police have registered a case.
