Mangalore, Feb 28, 2012: The HMS, CITU, BMS, INTUC, and AITUC jointly organized a protest in front of the Town Hall on Feb 28 Tuesday against the hike in prices of commodities.
B. Madhava, the vice president of the state Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), said in his protest address that the central government has ignored crucial trade problems and has hiked prices to commodities, making it very difficult for common people.
Stating that the central government is now encouraging contract-based labor, he said that this system is now slowly making its way into the medical field also, utterly destroying the working classes.
Although the central government has stored sufficient food grain in godowns, it is not distributing it among those who need it as a result of which it rots and gets spoiled, he said.
A number of trade union leaders participated in the protest.
