Mangaluru, Oct 12, 2025: The Kavoor police have arrested three persons for cheating a cooperative society by pledging imitation gold ornaments and securing a loan of ₹6.24 lakh.

The accused have been identified as Harif Abubakkar (39) of Aakash Bhavan, Mohammed Ashiq Kattathar Hussain (34) of Nanthoor Bikarnakatte, and Abdul Rameez (33) of Belandur village, Puttur taluk.


Fake Gold in Mangaluru



Police said Harif pledged the fake ornaments at a Multipurpose Cooperative Society in Kavoor on October 9, which sanctioned the loan believing them to be genuine. Acting on a complaint, police registered a case under Sections 316(2), 318(4) read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

Investigators seized ₹5 lakh in cash, 45 grams of imitation gold, a car worth ₹20 lakh, and four mobile phones — all valued at around ₹26.5 lakh. The operation was conducted under the guidance of ACP Srikanth K and led by Inspector Raghavendra M Byndoor and PSI Mallikarjun Biradara.
