Thieves abandon cattle on Puttur road after vehicle breaks down; two arrested

Mangaluru, Dec 2, 2025: According to a report from a resident of Panaje, Puttur, on the morning of November 29, 2025, some thieves transporting cattle in a vehicle left the animals on the road near Narimogaru, Puttur, after the vehicle broke down. With the help of local residents, the cattle were handed over to the Puttur City Police Station.

It is suspected that the cattle may have been stolen. The police have registered a case under FIR No. 117/2025 at Puttur City Police Station, under Sections 4 and 5 of the Karnataka Prevention and Preservation of Animals Act, Section 303(1) BNS 2023, and Section 106 BNSS 2023.

During the investigation, police identified the accused as Ashiq Pasha (26) and Abdul Latif (25), residents of Ullal Sajipanadu. They were transporting four cows and one bull in an Innova vehicle (KA 52 4889) when the vehicle broke down, forcing them to leave the cattle on the road and flee with the vehicle. The accused and the vehicle used in the crime have been seized, and the accused have been presented before the court.
