Since the thieves had broken open cupboards inside the church in search of cash and valuables, the devotees who arrived at the church for the early morning services found it in a ransacked condition and thought that it was yet another attack on churches.

But it was later found out that the same gang had also visited Rajarajeshwari Temple on the same day. However, the temple priest woke up when he heard them searching the temple for cash and valuables and alerted the Ullal Police, who immediately rushed to the spot with sniffer dogs and nabbed two persons.

Police are yet to find out whether it was the same gang that broke into the temple recently and made off with cash and valuables worth Rs. 1.4 lakh. Inspector Lingappa Poojary and Sub Inspector Saifulla visited the spot. Police are still investigating the case.
