Mangaluru, May 28, 2025: A tense situation unfolded in Farangipete yesterday (May 27) when a large crowd blocked the road and protested while the body of Abdul Rahman (34), who was murdered in Irakodi, Kuriyal village of Bantwal, was being transported.
Post-mortem of Abdul Rahman’s body was conducted late Tuesday night at Yenepoya Hospital in Derlakatte. Early this morning, his body was given a ritual wash (Mayyath Snan) at a mosque in Kuthar Madani Nagar. Following the funeral prayers (Mayyath Namaz), the body was transported in an ambulance under police protection. Hundreds of people accompanied the ambulance in vehicles.
When the procession reached Farangipete via Kuthar, Thokkottu, and Pumpwell, a large gathering blocked the road and condemned the brutal killing. The enraged crowd shouted slogans in support of Rahman and raised their voices against the government, demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits.
Police struggled to control the agitated crowd but eventually managed to calm the protesters and clear the way for the ambulance to proceed. The body is now being taken to Rahman’s home in Kolattamajalu, Bantwal Taluk.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Irakodi, Kuriyal village, where Abdul Rahman and Kalandar Shafi were transporting sand in a pickup truck. They were suddenly attacked by a gang with deadly weapons. Abdul Rahman succumbed to severe injuries and died on the spot, while Kalandar Shafi was critically injured and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered at the Bantwal Rural Police Station against 15 individuals, including two locals named Deepak and Sameeth, in connection with the murder and attempted murder.
