Mangalore, June 27: Guest lecturers of government colleges staged a protest procession from Jyothi Circle in Balmatta at DCO gates to intensify their long-standing demands for permanent posts. The protest rally was organized by the Federation of the Karnataka State Government/Guest Lecturers Union. Convener Vinith Kumar was the chief speaker at the rally.
Although some of these lecturers have been working for more than a decade, they had no benefits of permanent service. Speakers at the rally demanded that guest lecturers should be paid at least half the UGC salaries on fixed dates.
Temporary Lecturers’ Unions have been trying to draw the attention of the BJP government to the sorry plight of temporary lecturers in colleges; but the Education (HRD) Department chose to ignore them.
