Udupi, May 13: Gopala Kharvi from Kodi Kanyana of Udupi district has entered Limca Book of World Records for the year 2011.
He made a successful attempt to enter his name in the Limca Book of World Records for the year 2011, by swimming about 15 kms distance from St Marys Island to Malpe shore in 3 hrs on December 20, 2009 with his legs chained and hands cuffed to his back.
Fisherman Gopal Kharvi is the son of Nagesh Kharvi and Radha Kharvi. Since a young age, he was passionate about swimming. He has created several records and has been honoured with Karnataka Rajyotsava Award.
The Limca Book of World Record co-ordinator and swimmer S Siddaraju expressed happiness over Kharvi’s record and hailed Kharvi who succeeded to find a place in the Limca Book of Records.
He has attained success in his attempt. He could also be eligible to try for Guinness Book of World Records in future, he added.
Kharvi had tried and covered the similar distance in 2006 in two hours and 20 minutes, which was not recorded as he could not better his performance due to heavy wind which made him to lose his route. Earlier, he had made a record by covering 80 km of swimming from Gangolli Alive to Malpe beach in 2004.
