Suspected wife killer commits suicide

Puttur, Feb 29, 2012 : Muralidhar (29), who is suspected to have killed his wife Renuka of Kuntoor Koddotte, Kadaba, before running away from the scene, has committed suicide by hanging himself.

His body was found hanging from a tree a short distance from the spot where his wife’s body was found on the morning of Tuesday.

It may be recalled that the couple left their 18-month-old at home and went to the forest near their house to fetch fodder for their cows on the evening of Monday. The neighbors found Renuka’s body on the morning of the next day. A boulder, a sickle, and a piece of rope lying near her body indicated that her murderer had used the boulder to crush her skull.

Local people state that Muralidhar used to suffer from depression. The couple and their child stayed with Muralidhar’s father, elder brother, and sister-in-law in Keddotte. Reportedly, he was angry with his father for not giving him a share of the property so that he could live with his family independently. Since Renuka preferred living in a joint family, he was angry with Renuka too. Neighbors feel that this could be the reason why he killed his wife and then committed suicide.

The family, which was making preparations to worship the serpent god on Tuesday, had to cancel their plans and perform the funeral rites instead.
