Delivering the welcome address, Ms Nikitha Moras, Under-Secretary General of Finance, urged delegates to enter committee sessions with open minds and collaborative spirits. She introduced the Chief Guest, Mr Vishal Hegde, Pro-Chancellor of NITTE (Deemed to be University).

In his keynote address, Mr Vishal Hegde commended the Jesuit tradition of value-based education and described SAPMUN as a platform that fosters acceptance, tolerance, and respect for diverse cultures. Reflecting on the United Nations’ role in resolving conflicts beyond political disputes, he stressed the importance of perspective, dialogue, and open-mindedness. He also urged students to listen carefully, think critically, and act responsibly, particularly in an age where social media shapes decision-making at great speed.

Rev. Fr Clifford Sequeira SJ, Principal of St Aloysius PU College, presided over the ceremony and called SAPMUN a transformative journey for young leaders. He reminded delegates of the UN’s founding principles of peace, justice, and cooperation, stressing that challenges such as war, climate change, hunger, and displacement are not inevitable but the result of human choices. He encouraged students to debate courageously, act with compassion, and commit themselves to building a better world.

The Secretary-General of SAPMUN 2025, Mr Manvith M, set the tone for the conference by reminding delegates that diplomacy is not about personal victories but collective progress. Urging them to represent not just policies but the voices of people worldwide, he officially declared the seventh edition of SAPMUN open.

Other dignitaries present included Campus Minister Rev. Fr Anthony Derrick SJ, Vice Principal of Science Mr Muralikrishna G M, Deans Mr Inas Dais and Ms Kiran Shetty, staff coordinators, and members of the SAPMUN executive board. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr Tanmay Prabhu, Under-Secretary General of Conventional Affairs.

The event set an inspiring tone for three days of debate and diplomacy, underscoring the transformative power of dialogue and the responsibility of youth in shaping a just and harmonious future.
