Mangalore, June 23, 2012 : Kageri Vishweshwar Hegde, state minister for higher education, said that Shaalegagi Navu Neevu, a state government program that was launched last year, will be implemented in all schools across Karnataka from July 5.
Addressing reporters at a press conference held in Circuit House on June 23, Saturday, the minister said that the program will be implemented on July 5 and a follow up will be done to check its progress from July 6 to July 31.
Further, he said that the state government is taking all the required steps to provide qualitative education to all students along with basic facilities with the funds earmarked for education.
He urged the public to develop a soft corner for government schools and support and encourage them. Further, he said that the state government has implemented the Right to Education Act introduced by the central government and urged all people to accept it. The RTE provides for compulsory education for all children till Std VIII, but steps are now being taken to make it compulsory education till degree.
He also said that mobile schools have been introduced for migrant children.
Regarding text boks, he said that CBSE syllabus has been introduced for I PU PCMB students and text books for standards V to VIII have been introduced under the national curriculum framework and will be introduced for other classes too from next year.
BJP leaders Padmanabha Kottary, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, and Shrikar Prabhu were also present.
