Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, April 29: The chances of seven students of St. Aloysius College getting their degrees at the 29th annual convocation of Mangalore University are very slim indeed. Prof. T. C. Shivashankar Murthy, the vice chancellor of the Mangalore University, told reporters that the seven students were admitted to M.Com (applied finance and accounting) course in 2008 – 09 in violation of accepted norms.

According to the approved regulation, students should score at least 50 percent marks in their qualifying examinations to join this course, but these seven students had scored less than 50 percent. The vice chancellor was speaking in response to a query regarding the fate of the 2007 – 08 PG students and the 2008 – 09 UG and PG students, who were not awarded degrees at the university’s 28th convocation.

Prof. Murthy said that 251 PG students of 2007 – 08 and 1,131 students of the PG and UG courses of 2008 – 09 will be awarded degrees, but seven PG students of 2008 – 09 will not receive their degrees. He said that norms were violated in case of 7 of the 43 students who were admitted to the M.Com (applied finance and accounting) course of 2008 – 09.
