SCDCC Bank honours Guinness World Record holder Gopal Kharvi

Mangalore, Dec 6, 2013: SCDCC Bank Chairman MN Rajendra Kumar honored ace swimmer Gopal Kharvi for setting the Guinness World Record by swimming a distance of 3 km in 2.43 hours, from Malpe beach to St Mary’s island with his hands and legs chained.


SCDCC Bank honoured Kharvi with the cash amount of Rs 50,000, while Navodaya Chariatable Trust honoured him with the amount of Rs 25,000 for his rare feat.

Speaking on the occasion, M N Rajendra Kumar appreciated the effort of Gopal Kharvi and bringing laurels to undivided DK and entire state.


After receiving the honour, Kharvi said that he had missed the world records during last attempt since GPS cameras were not installed.


He said that he has spent the amount of Rs 12 lakhs to set the world record to fulfill his dream. Although some of donor helped to meet his expense, he said that he will take long time to repay the loan of Rs 8 lakhs. The state government has not given any financial assistance for the rare feat, he said.
