Rashtriya Yuva Prashasti to be conferred on 35 young achievers at youth festival

Mangalore, Jan 3, 2012 : DC Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda told reporters Monday that 5000 young people from all over India, including the union territories, are expected to participate in the 17th National Youth Festival, scheduled to be held in Mangalore on Jan 12 – 16 and during which the Rashtriya Yuva Prashasthi will be conferred on 35 young achievers.

Further, he said that the state government has released Rs. 5 crore for this event while the central government has released Rs. 2 crore. Around 400 officials from the Nehru Yuva Kendra, 18 top central government officials, and 25 state government officials are monitoring the preparations for this mega event, he added.

He also said that part of the funds will be used to build a synthetic track at Mangala Stadium, and its foundation will be laid at the valedictory ceremony of the festival.

The competitions forming part of this event will be held at a number of venues across the city such as Town Hall, Devadigara Bhavana in Mannagudda, T. M. A. Pai Convention Centre, SDM Law College, Gokarnatheshwara Hall in Kudroli, and Kudroli Koragappa Kalyana Mantapa.

The participants will be entertained with celebrity nights held in Mangala Stadium on Jan 13 – 15 from 7:00 p.m. Hariharan and Leslie Louise will entertain the audience on Jan 13, while Euphoria will entertain them on Jan 14. Shivamani, Praveen Godkindi, Kadri Gopalnatha, and Narasimha Vadavatti will perform on Jan 15. And on Jan 16, Vasundhara Das will perform.

A food festival and a Yuva Krithi will also be held at Karavali Utsav Grounds, along with water sports at Panambur Beach. A special boat race will be held on Panambur Beach on Jan 14 while a beach volleyball match and a throwball match will be held on Jan 15. The Kambala and the flower show will be held at Pilikula on Jan 15.


Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the CEO of ZP, and Dayananda, the additional DC, were also present.
