Mangaluru, Dec 01, 2022: The decision of the Mangaluru City Corporation to install a statue of Chatrapathi Shivaji at the Mahaveer Circle at Pumpwell has come in for severe criticism from the opposition Congress party.
MCC’s meeting on Wednesday had approved the proposal to have a statue installed, following a demand by the Chatrapathi Shivaji Maratha Association.
However raising objection, opposition Congress leader Naveen D’Souza said it would be better to have the statues of Tulunadu heroes Koti-Chennaya instead.
Another Congress member Shashidhar Hegde suggested that the statue of any freedom fighter from the coast be installed.
Later Chief Whip Premanand Shetty said the proposal has already been approved and that the MCC had recorded the objections by the opposition leaders.
