Mangalore, Aug 6, 2013: All Polytechnic College Students’ Association formed a human chain at Hampankatta on August 6, Tuesday demanding roll back of the changes brought about to the carry-over system.

Addressing the protesters, Advocate Dinaker Shetty said that the students of polytechnic colleges have been  protesting through hunger strike since the past 32 days. In spite of submitting  memoranda to the MLAs, deputy commissioner, ministers and the government requesting to withdraw the present carryover system, there has been no response, he said. This has affected over  80% students from continuing their 3rd and 5th semester. Shetty informed.

He also said that so far seven polytechnic students have committed suicide due to the government’s decision on present carryover system. If the government does not meet the demands of the students, we will start a ‘Bangalore Chalo Campaign’ to protest in front of the residence of Higher Education Minister and Chief Minister, he said.

 Further the government will be held directly responsible for the suicide of any other students, he warned and demanded compensation for the family of Santosh who committed suicide frustrated by the present carry over system that did not allow him to continue studies

All Polytechnic College Students Association President Ramith Kumar, Vice President Vinay H J, Sachin Bangera, Dikshith, Karishma D Ullal, Udupi unit President Jovin, Secretary Sachin, Belthangady unit President Mohammed Arif, Sullia unit President Prajwal K T and others participated in the protest.
