Mangaluru, Jun 26, 2021: State Minister for Agriculture B C Patil has said that the government was contemplating to facilitate cultivation in around 8000 acres of Hadilu Bhoomi or fallow land in Dakshina Kannada district by removing all legal obstacles and also by initiating necessary steps through co-operative societies.
He was speaking to reporters here on June 26, Saturday after participating in a review meeting at the DC office. He also said the local legislators have plans to initiate measures to take up cultivation in around 3,000 acres of Hadilu Bhoomi in the district.
He said the officials have been instructed to prepare a comprehensive report on formulating schemes facilitating agriculture considering the distinct geographical features of the coastal district.
District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary who was also present, said a demand has been placed before the government to supply 12 quintals of boiled rice or red rice to the district to be distributed through fair price shops. He said there is a proposal to produce 20,000 quintals of rice at the rate of 15 quintals per hectare of identified Hadilu Bhoomi in the district.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V, ZP CEO Dr Kumar, MLAs Rajesh Naik, Umanath Kotian, Dr Bharath Shetty were also present.
