Mangaluru, July 2, 2026: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has declared a holiday for all anganwadi centres, primary and secondary schools, government, aided and private educational institutions, and pre-university colleges (up to Class 12) across the district on Thursday, July 2, following a red alert issued for heavy rainfall.
The order was issued by Deputy Commissioner Darshan H V based on forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), which have predicted continued heavy rainfall across the district.
In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the Deputy Commissioner has issued several precautionary measures. Parents have been advised not to allow children to visit low-lying areas, lakes, riverbanks or seashores, while fishermen have been strictly advised against venturing into the sea.
District- and taluk-level officials have been directed to remain at their headquarters, ensure effective disaster management without any lapse, respond promptly to public grievances, and maintain constant communication with the District Control Room.
Tourists and the public have also been urged to avoid visiting beaches and riverbanks. Officials of the concerned departments have been instructed to keep relief centres in all taluks ready for immediate use in case of emergencies.
The district administration has appealed to residents to contact the District Disaster Management Authority in the event of any rain-related emergency. The District Control Room can be reached at 0824-2220588, while communications may also be sent to dc.mnglr@gmail.com
DC Warns Against Violating Holiday Order
In a separate statement, Deputy Commissioner Darshan H V said the administration had received information that some private schools, colleges and educational institutions were planning to conduct classes despite the holiday declaration.
He warned that any institution found violating the district administration’s order would face legal action under the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
