Mangalore, Nov 14, 2012: Pilikula Nisargadhama, located close to Vamanjoor, has been renamed as Dr. Shivaram Karantha Pilikula Nisargadhama.
Ajithkumar Hegde Shanady, executive director of Pilikula Nisargadhama, announced in a press release that the High Court of Karnataka and the state department of forest, environment, and ecology have directed that the park should be renamed as Dr. Shivaram Karanath Pilikula Nisargadhama.
The district administration is the promoter of Pilikula Nisargadhama, an eco education and tourism development project.
Launched in 1990, Pilikula has become very popular over the last ten years and now has several features promoting scientific research, culture, and education. The park sprawls over 370 acres of land and comprises the Pilikula Lake and a tropical forest.
Dr. Shivaram Karanth Pilikula Nisargadhama comprises a biological park, a science center, an arboretum, a lake park with boating facilities, a water-theme park, a heritage village, and a golf course.
