Mangalore, Oct 17, 2011: Fr. Andrew Leo D’Souza, the director of St. Jude Thaddeus Church at Pakshikere, told reporters today at a press conference that the annual festival of the church will be held on Oct 28. 


Fr. D’Souza said that a retreat will be held for 3 days from Oct 20 and that the Horekanike will be brought to the church at 4:30 p.m. on Oct 23. St. Jude will be then taken in a procession, after which mass and a religious discourse in Kannada will be held in Pakshikere town. Fr. Alban D’Souza, who served as the parish priest at Pakshikere for 7 years before getting transferred to Barkur Church, will be present.

He also said that a mass marriage ceremony will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Oct 25. Fr. Denis Moras, the vicar general of Mangalore Diocese, will bless the couples and a community feast will be arranged on that day. 


On Oct 28 Friday, Dr. Percival Fernandes, the assistant bishop of Mumbai Diocese, will celebrate the Holy Mass and Dr. Pius James D’Souza will deliver the religious discourse.
The novena, a series of prayers and religious discourses, will be held from Nov 19, featuring hymns, rosary, prayers, special rituals for the sick, and so on. Devotees can light candles to St. Jude in the church hall, said Fr. D’Souza. 


Fr. Sunil Praveen Pinto, the assistant director, Lucy Miranda, Dolphy Miranda, and Louis D’Souza were also present. 


The St. Jude Thaddeus Church, belonging to the Catholics of Pakshikere, was constructed in 1960 and is now 50 years old. Pakshikere is just 2kms from Haleangady. People of all faiths visit this beautiful church, which is set in serene surroundings.
