Padubidri, December 11, 2025: A woman labourer died and several others were injured after a tempo transporting materials for concrete work overturned when its tyre burst. The incident occurred on Thursday morning on National Highway 66 near the Hejamady Kannangaru Brahmabaidarkala Garadi.
The deceased woman has been identified as Parvathi (30). Savitramma, Mahantesh and five others sustained injuries. The tempo, which was travelling from Mulki towards Udupi, was carrying a concrete mixing machine, equipment, and several male and female workers. The vehicle, which was reportedly moving at high speed, overturned after a sudden tyre burst caused the driver to lose control.
Several individuals were trapped under the overturned tempo and were rescued with the help of local residents. One woman was stuck beneath the machine, and members of the public along with toll staff struggled to free her.
The Hejamady toll ambulance and a crane arrived promptly and managed to rescue the woman. She was severely injured and was rushed to a private hospital in Mukka in the toll ambulance, but she succumbed to her injuries. Padubidri police visited the spot and conducted an inspection.
