Mangalore, Dec 28: Padmanabha Kottari, the former MLA of Vittal, has been unanimously elected as the president of the BJP district unit for a period of 3 years at the Scout Bhavan on Dec 28, Monday. 

He said that DK is the undivided region of Karnataka. Although Udupi has been declared as a separate district, it will still remain a part of DK. He also said that expressing anger while doing one’s duty must be avoiding; instead, one must work for the party and the people without expressing anger. He declared that he would follow in the footsteps of Monappa Bhandary, the former president of BJP district unit, and work for the welfare of the people and the party.

K Monappa Bhandary, the former president, handed over the membership list to the new president and said that, for several years in the past, the Congress ruled the various constituencies of the district. But now all the constituencies with the exception of Bantwal are ruled by the BJP. He said that all the representatives and activists of the party, from the Gram Panchayats to the Vidhan Parishad, are working for its welfare. He suggested that the district unit of BJP must develop a framework within which it must function for the development of the people as well as the party. 


D V Sadanand Gowda, the MP of Udupi-Chickmagalur constituency, said that the party will have to undergo a lot of pain in order to progress. Sunil Kumar, the chief electoral officer, said that the BJP has achieved its goal by getting a membership of 24 lakhs. Krishna J Palemar, the district-in-charge minister, said that, although Monappa Bhandary has completed his term as the president of the BJP district unit, he must continue serving the party and must support the new president because the party belongs to everybody. 


MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Sulochana Bhat, and Somashekara Bhat were also present during the occasion.
