PFI trying to re-enter politics through SDPI, says MP Brijesh Chowta in Lok Sabha

Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi/ Mangaluru, December 6, 2025: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta on Friday expressed deep concern in the Lok Sabha during Zero Hour over what he described as an alarming attempt by the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) to re-enter the electoral system through Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) workers.

Referring to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) press release dated November 8, 2025, Capt. Chowta said in Parliament that SDPI is functioning as the political front of the banned PFI. The ED has also highlighted the serious allegation that PFI is controlling SDPI’s political activities and funding them. Since PFI is a banned organisation, any covert attempt by it to influence elections poses a direct threat to national unity and integrity, he said.

Drawing the House’s attention to recent incidents in Dakshina Kannada district, Capt. Chowta noted that the coastal region has long suffered due to the activities of the banned PFI. Recently, Hindu activist Suhas Shetty was murdered in Dakshina Kannada, and following timely intervention by the Union Home Minister, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is currently probing the case. This murder, he said, is a clear indication of the continuing threat posed by such extremist forces in the region.

With local body elections approaching in Karnataka, Capt. Chowta stressed the urgent need to scrutinise the political links between the banned PFI and SDPI. In recent years, SDPI has secured several seats in local bodies in Dakshina Kannada. He also pointed out that during the Bantwal Town Municipality president’s election last year, SDPI supported opposition candidates in key posts. Another serious concern, he alleged, is that the ruling Congress in Karnataka has an unwritten understanding with SDPI and continues to foster such elements. For Karnataka, this is a matter of deep worry, he added.

He further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India has maintained a ‘Nation First’ policy and zero tolerance towards terrorism. He urged the Union Home Minister to take the ED’s findings seriously and ensure that banned organisations are prevented from resurfacing in new forms or using political parties to legitimise their activities in elections. While the democratic system ensures equal rights for all to contest elections, national security must remain the top priority, Capt. Chowta emphasized in the House.
