Mangalore, Jan 30, 2012 : The 32nd All India Major Ports Shuttle Badminton Tournament 2011 – 12 jointly organized by the Major Ports Sports Control Board and the New Mangalore Port Sports Council was inaugurated on the premises of NMPT Gymkhana on Saturday by Dr. P. D. Vaghela, the chairman of Kandla Port Trust and Major Ports Sports Control Board.
Dr. P. Tamilvanan, the chairman of NMPT, and many other dignitaries were also present.
Delivering the welcome address, T. S. N. Murthy, the deputy chairman of NMPT and president of NMP Sports Council, spoke about the need for players to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship.
Delivering the inaugural address, Dr. Vaghela expressed his appreciation of NMPT for encouraging sport by conducting such national-level events.
In his address, NMPT Chairman Dr. P. Tamilvanan said that the NMPT is committed to the encouragement of sports. He also promised many more such events in future.
Tuticorin and NMPT played the inaugural match with NMPT emerging as the winner.
Teams from the major ports of JNPT, Kandla, Goa, Mumbai, Chennai, Cochin, Tuticorin, NMPT, and Vishakapatnam are participating in this event.
The event will comprise categories such as men’s open, men’s singles, and men’s doubles, children’s, veterans, and others.
The venues are NMPT Gymkhana and U. S. Mallya Indoor Stadium, also known as Mangala Stadium.
