Muslim community demands separate CBI investigation into Qazi’s death

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Dec 20, 2011: The action committee formed to demand a CBI investigation into the mysterious circumstances surrounding the death of Mangalore Qazi C. M. Abdulla Moulavi organized a protest in front of the DC’s office on Dec 20 Tuesday. A number of Muslims participated in the protest rally taken from Jyothi Circle to the DC’s office.

In his protest address, DK Qazi Twaka Ahmed Musliar said that Al Haj C. M. Abdulla Maulavi was a great Islamic scholar besides being the Qazi of DK. He had also served as the Qazi of part of the Udupi district in Karnataka and Kasargod district in Kerala. Early in the morning of Feb 15, 2010, the Qazi’s dead body was seen floating in the Arabian Sea near Chembarika Coast far from his house. His footwear, stick, and torch were placed on a rock near the sea. The Qazi was 77 years old when he died.

Further, he said that the body of the aged Qazi was found with lacerations and abrasions along with a fracture of the spine between the sixth and the seventh vertebrae and blood stains in his chest cavity. Since the late Qazi was aged and ailing, he could not walk without assistance.

In spite of all this evidence, the investigating CBI team has submitted its final report, labeling the death as “suicide.” The Qazi’s post mortem report and the circumstantial evidence surrounding his death rule out all possibilities of suicide, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Jabbar Ustad Mitthabail stated that the fact that the Qazi was found with a fracture of the spinal cord points to murder and completely rules out possibilities of suicide.

The committee therefore urged concerned authorities to assign the case to a CBI team with top officials so that the truth can be brought to light. They also submitted a memorandum to PM Manmohan Singh through DC Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda.

Committee leader Zainul Abideen Tangal, Karnataka Jamiathul Ulaim President Abdul Azeez Dharimi, MLA U. T. Khader, Ibrahim Kodijal, K. Ashraf, Vahid Faizi, and many others participated in the protest.
