Mangaluru, Mar 18, 2026: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has ordered the suspension of Moodbidri Police Inspector Sandesh B.G., stating that audio and video evidence confirm his inappropriate behaviour with women.
The Commissioner had earlier directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of the North Sub-Division (Panambur) to conduct an inquiry into allegations of sexual harassment against the inspector and submit a report.
Based on the investigation report submitted by the ACP of Mangaluru North Sub-Division, action has been taken against the inspector, the Commissioner informed.
According to the ACP’s report, a woman named Prafulla Nayak, a resident of Moodbidri, filed a complaint and issued a media statement claiming that all allegations made by her sister, Sumathi Nayak, against Inspector Sandesh B.G. are false.
It was also noted that there are ongoing family disputes between Sumathi and Prafulla Nayak. Two cases each have been registered against Sumathi and her sister. Except for one case under investigation, including the case against the inspector, all other cases have been stayed by the High Court and are pending before the courts.
The report further stated that four cases have been registered against the husband of Avita Menezes, the second woman who made a media statement against the inspector (one of which has been closed). Both she and her husband are accused of misusing funds collected for the medical treatment of a poor man’s kidney ailment. A charge sheet has been filed after gathering evidence. There is no proof of any harassment against her.
Regarding allegations that the inspector demanded a bribe and behaved inappropriately, CCTV footage was examined, but no evidence was found. Additionally, two media personnel and a lawyer were present at the time and have denied any such incident of bribery or harassment.
However, the available audio and video recordings show the inspector behaving suspiciously and speaking in an extremely inappropriate manner with a woman over the phone.
Both women seen in the audio and video have refused to file formal complaints. They have been informed that they may come forward with statements in the future if they wish, the Police Commissioner clarified.
